Definitions of ACC
According to abbreviationfinder, Alpena Community College is commonly known as ACC. Alpena Community College (ACC) was established in 1965 as Alpena Junior College. This was due to the efforts of local citizens who recognized the need for higher education in the area. The college was first located in a building on the campus of Alpena High School and provided two-year college courses, designed to improve educational opportunities for local residents. The college quickly outgrew its space at Alpena High School and moved to its current location on Long Rapids Road in 1970.
In 1989, Alpena Junior College was officially granted four-year accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission and became Alpena Community College. This allowed students to gain bachelor’s degrees through ACC’s University Center, which offers programs from Central Michigan University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Lake Superior State University and Oakland University.
The mission of ACC is to provide quality learning experiences that empower individuals to enhance their personal growth and development. In recent years, the college has been expanding its course offerings to include a number of certificate programs as well as additional associate degree options. In addition, ACC has also created a variety of online courses for students who prefer distance learning or have difficulty attending traditional classes due to their work or family obligations. These virtual classes allow students to take advantage of all the same benefits that they would receive if they attended classes on campus while still being able to study from anywhere with an internet connection.
